Things are changing at the House of Night, and few of them have any benefit for the fledglings and adult vampyres that reside there. Fledglings are disappearing, and not the you're-doomed-to-die kind of disappearing. And so is it a surprise that High Priestess Alaine is facing stronger and stronger pressure from her colleagues and her superiors to figure out what's going on, once and for all?
Enter the Volatilis, a mysterious band of winged creatures that have been residing in the forest that surrounds the House of Night. High Priestess Alaine has set up a protective barrier to keep them out, but some of the students don't agree that they are the reason why fledglings have disappeared.
There isn't much time before things take a huge turn- for better or for worse. And when the only ones who might have the answers are blockaded out of reach, nobody knows what's about to happen.

Instant Messenger Somehow, one of the professors figured out how to mess with the computers so that every fledgling at the House of Night can chat with each other. Bathroom Tiles Even though it's banned at the House of Night, graffiti still pops up all over the tiles in the bathrooms. Come on, admit it, you're guilty of leaving a message in here: we all are.
Winterhawk High School The only public high school in the entire town, Winterhawk is fairly well-known throughout this part of the state. Colors: navy blue and silver. Mascot: Undecided. It changes from year to year, to the great annoyance of the athletes. Every other month or so, a student from Winterhawk is marked and they end up on the outskirts of town, at the House of Night. Starbucks It's not strange to see a fair number of people hanging out here. This is a popular place for teens to just chill, though some stop by and do their homework here on their way to the high school, just down the road. Employees: Sam Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Movie Theater Most of the time, it's pretty quiet here. But when one of the big movies comes out, this theater will be packed to the brim with teens. At least they sell a lot of popcorn. Employees: Imogen Alsafo Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Mall The mall is where every teen in the nearby vicinity spends their afternoons and weekends. Some teens work part-time in the stores, but most just shop, procrastinate, flirt, and hang out with friends. Employees: Kelsey Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Pool Complex Even in winter, this three-pool complex is often full of local kids looking for something to do. The indoor portion contains the smaller of the two main pools, a small sauna, and the two locker rooms. The Forest This large, mostly-evergreen forest is often seen as the boundary between humans and vampyres, as it separates the town from the House of Night. A paved road connects the House to town, but it is rarely traveled by humans. The forest is a combination of human-planted trees and an older, natural forest that was present previously. The trees are quite tall, especially near the House of Night, and it is rumored among human teens that they were planted to protect vampyres from the sun. Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Entrance Welcome to the House of Night. Prepare to either die or become a vampyre. And you have absolutely no choice in the matter. Good luck. You'll be needing it, but don't forget that Nyx is with us all. Moderator: ``the K Y R A
Nyx's Temple Need to think? Lonely? In need of comfort? Then you might want to think about visiting Nyx's temple. She is always here, whether you're aware of it or not. The High Priestess is also here quite frequently, for obvious reasons. Residents: Nyx Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Courtyard The courtyard is not exactly a true courtyard, persay, but that's what everyone calls it. It's grassy and mowed weekly, and the occasional tree is scattered about. A few benches were placed in the courtyard, but time has worn them down and one by one, the benches have broken. And, honestly, nobody really cares enough to buy new ones. Moderator: ``the K Y R A
Classrooms and Hallways (5 sub-boards) If your fledgling is in the middle of class, they ought to be in here. Unless they're skipping class. Which wouldn't be particularly wise. And, likewise, if your fledgling or vampyre is lurking in the halls, they can probably be found in here. Or are they hiding in a broom closet? I don't know. We don't know. You go find them. The Dining Hall Food. That's usually all that goes through the minds of the students in here. Food and friends, anyway. All meals are served here, and sometimes snacks can be snagged, if you catch them at a good time. Moderator: ``the K Y R A

The Library This is usually seen as a place for research and study- not particularly popular among many students. However, there are a few students who regularly come by, and while the library is usually pretty quiet, some days it can be quite full. Moderator: ``the K Y R A
The Stables This is where the horses are housed, and where equestrian classes are held. Some students like to come down here to relax or just think, and it's not uncommon for the cats to hang around here. Girls' Dorm This is where the girls sleep and hang out. It's not particularly odd for the guys to come over and hang out in the common room, and when they aren't off doing other things, the girls can often be found chatting or studying with their roommates. Niagara Falls A popular vacation spot for Americans and Canadians alike, Niagara is a spectacular place for even the greenest tourists. It's a longstanding argument on whose side is better, but you'll find that most New Yorkers agree that the Canadian side is better than the American side. School is Back in Session
The summer holidays are over and fledglings and humans alike are back in school for the 09-10 year. The Tracker seems to be a tad overactive, as several newly-Marked fledglings have shown up at the gates, but no one's complaining. Well, they're complaining, but that has more to do with a couple professors going assignment-happy. In the meantime, word has it that the Dark Daughters are already drawing up plans for the Halloween festivals...
