It was three in the morning. Night. Everybody was asleep. Except for one lost soul tiptoeing through the halls in her pajamas.
October peered through the doorway to the kitchen. She saw the enormous box of Dove chocolate perched on top of one of the fridges. She grinned evilly. The teachers could hide the chocolate from her, but never for long.
October prayed that nobody would see her pajamas. A stretched-out shirt that said "Boo" and jack-o-lantern pajamas. Of course, she had gotten them for her birthday. Birthoween sucked.
Come to think of it, she prayed that nobody would walk in on her mauling a Dove bar at 3 PM.
The thin brunette leaped onto the counter, her feet making slight slapping noises. She hopped on top of the fridge, and grabbed the Dove. Brown eyes shining in triumph, she ripped open one of the bars (it was one of those weird boxes of bars) and started to chew. She heard the sound of footsteps. Her head snapped around to see a figure leaning in the doorway. "Oh HI!!!" she said brightly, waving with her free hand.
She realized she must be a sight, crouching on top of a fridge-with messy bedhead-eating chocolate-in weird Halloween pajamas.

(( LOL I've never had a "Birthoween" problem even though I really wouldn't care, being partial to such things )) Blackjack normally didn't visit the kitchen in the middle of the day/night/whatevertheycallit, but he was craving a snack and he'd long since run out of snacks in his dorm. And he really wasn't expecting to find anyone else downstairs for a noontime snack. Or, more accurately, a three PM snack. He casually leaned in the doorway, waiting for the girl to notice him, and when she did, he grinned lazily. "Saying as you're mauling the tiny box of chocolate some kid left up there, I'm going to guess that you have no idea where they keep the huge chocolate stash." He smirked, and strode into the kitchen, where he yanked open a pantry and pulled out a bag of pre-popped popcorn, the type for lazy people who can't be bothered to wait for the popcorn to pop in the microwave, or heaven forbid, make their own popcorn. Blackjack glanced at the fridge, deliberated for a moment, then pulled out a can of Coke and a pouch of blood, not caring that the caffeine would probably keep him up for an hour or two. "So, do you want to know where they keep the rest of the chocolate?"

October grinned. "No kid left this up here. The professors noted that I'm weird if I don't get chocolate. It's like Toby with his music. I have my chocolate, and I don't become a little freak. Win win situation." she said, taking a monstrous bite out of her Dove bar. "Anyway, if I were to gorge myself on chocolate I'd stop liking it so much and get fat and puke and reject the Change. And I value my life." she said, grinning sweetly. Her British accent made her voice a little creepy sounding. She looked at the bag of blood in Blackjack's hand. "You already have bloodlust??"

"Actually, whatshisface from down the hall from me put it there, I saw him. What's his name.... oh yeah, Toby, he left it there." Blackjack grinned, looking fairly pleased with himself. "You're his girlfriend, right? I bet he knew you'd be looking for chocolate and left it there for you." He paused to listen to her finish talking, and when she did, he shrugged, looking like he didn't really care. "Yeah, so? I'm almost a sixth former, I'll either be rejecting the Change or becoming a vampyre before long." He lowered his voice slightly, his tone becoming more confidential. "Has anyone told you that fledglings who have seen death-before being Marked-almost always survive the Change?"

October's eyes widened. "I saw my grandma die, if that means anything." she said. "Yeah, he's my boyfriend. So?" she grumbled, mutinously glaring and taking a grumpy bite of chocolate. "Maybe he was delivering. You know, are you stalking me? Skye told me you poked me when I had my vision." October gave him her patented Bibi glare. "I don't appreciate stalkers." she said coldly.

Blackjack would have snickered, normally, but he didn't. Instead, his expression darkened. "Jeez, you're paranoid. And I thought my last girlfriend was paranoid!" A small smile flashed across his face as he thought about the girl in question- a certain half-Mexican girl who he'd left behind in the big city. Those were some pretty awesome seven-and-a-half months, he mused, temporarily distracted. He blinked, noticing that she was glaring at him. "Y'know, I get enough people glaring at me on a regular basis. Do you really think I'd want to stalk you? You probably don't even know my name, now do you?"

October wobbled for a second, and then managed to move her feet into a more stable position, moving around like a duck. "I'm sure you had a girlfriend, Blackjack." she said smugly. "Absolutely." She looked at him. "You know, if you weren't such a jerk people would stop glaring at you. That's the best solution. Look, I don't know many guys who go sneaking around in the girl's dorm at 3 PM. You have problems or something." she muttered.

Blackjack snickered. "I had several. Lilith was the first- she was a psychopath, got locked up in the crazyhouse. I dated Lacey for three months, we broke up but we're still buddies. And before I got Marked, I dated Kaliea for a while- here's her picture." He flipped open his cell phone and pulled up a picture of a distinctly Mexican-looking girl with thick, curly reddish-brown hair and bright gray eyes. Blackjack failed to mention that they had continued dating for two months after he was Marked, not deeming October worthy of such information. "Me, a jerk? Nah. Lots of girls seem to think that, though." Quite cheerfully, he added, "And yep, I've got problems. I thought that was obvious. Not many try their hand at selling illegal substances at the age of twelve."

October raised her eyebrows. "Really." That was all she could say. Really. She took another bite of her chocolate bar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Skye was very tired. Four o'clock in the afternoon. She couldn't sleep, so she decided to go downstairs in her pajamas: an oversized Vans Warped Tour shirt (she had a smaller one that she wore for normal clothes) and gray sweat pants. She yawned, and turned into the kitchen. Her blue eyes widened immediately. "Uh...October? What are you doing?"
October was in a very weird position on the fridge, eating chocolate in Halloween pj's. "Am I dreaming?" she said in a confused voice. She pinched herself. "Nope." She went up and grabbed October's chocolate.

Blackjack chuckled to himself when Skye appeared. Part of him found the two third formers vaguely amusing, and part of him just wanted to get his snack and go back to sleep for a few hours. The latter won, and the dark-haired fifth former reached up and pulled a bag of popcorn from the cupboards. He tore the plastic off and stuck the popcorn in the microwave, not particularly interested in whatever the two girls were doing.
