Tyler snorted, amused that he'd played the family card.
"Yeah, my family's real great," he said casually, pretending to act normal and loving and all-around-favored-son material. "They loved me so much they made me sleep in my sister's room until I could get here. Yeah, the bed was too crowded so I slept on the floor. It was really comfortable. Oh, and we had this awesome thing called family dinners. Yeah, they were great... I remember, we ate in complete silence because it was too awkward otherwise. Real fun.
"See, Blackjack? You don't get it! I'd have been better off without a family. I'd rather die right now than have to tell them I Changed into a Vampyre. You know why? Because they were scared of me when I was Marked. And how do you think they'll react when they find out I survived the damn process of becoming a freak? I wouldn't be surprised if they moved to Antarctica just to get the hell away from me!"
He took a breath and shook his head, blinking rapidly in an attempt to keep his headache manageable.
"Dammit, Blackjack," he muttered, suddenly noticing a searing pain wracking through his body. "Karma hates me. I've jinxed it. I'm dying. Dammit!" he choked, wondering when blood would start forming puddles on the clean floor. He cringed, scrunching his eyes shut and gritting his teeth in an attempt to keep from screaming. If he was going to die, he didn't want other people to have to hear. He knew it was pointless to get Alaine- not like she could do anything to reverse his slow death. But why hadn't he died yet? What the hell was taking so long?
The pain that had begun in the slow form of a headache- clever, he realized -still hadn't left him.
