This is a few weeks before she is Marked, she's a Human Damn it! Jaya cursed silently in her head, looking in her purse and realizing that the ten dollars she'd earned baby sitting, now sat at home, on her dresser, waiting to go to the Mall with her. How on earth had she forgotten it? It was right there! Honestly she knew she was forgetful but this was ridicules. Her mother had often said that she'd loose her head if it wasn't attached to her. The memory of her mother's words stung painfully as Jaya set the lip stick she'd wanted back on the shelf. She didn't like thinking about her parents, her mother especially. It had been a few years since their deaths and time had helped, but the memories were still sore if she dwelt on it for too long. Usually she pushed it from her mind, keeping her thoughts in her future as apposed to her past. She couldn't go back Winterhawk High School, the sooner she started the sooner she finished and the Collage, hopefully somewhere out of state. She had her future mapped out ahead of her, and she couldn't wait. After all, what could go wrong? Glancing back in her purse she side, she had.... 2 dollars, and 3 quarters... Great, just great. She wanted that money, how on earth had she forgotten it? With a sigh Jaya turned to leave the shop, but as she did did her ankle twisted in her healed sandals, causing her foot to slip from under her and her whole side to hit the floor, hard. Damn it! That had bloody hurt. Jaya groaned, sitting up as her body twinged in pain and reached for her bag that had spun out her hand. Great, well this day was going well.

Kelsey loved shopping, it was true. With the wages she earned working at Aeropostale, she always had enough to pay for the additions to her expansive closet and jewelry boxes (she had three, one she inherited from her mother, one she bought at a garage sale, and a third that had been a birthday present when she was eleven). The blonde teenager casually strided into one of her favorite shops, where several of her friends worked and almost the entire staff knew who she was. Even better, she frequently got discounts on stuff just because the owner of the place used to be buddies with her mom. She stopped abruptly in the entrance, noticing a girl splayed out on the floor. "Hey, you okay?" she asked sympathetically, offering a hand to help the girl up. She'd twisted her ankles in heeled shoes a number of times and knew just how much it hurt to fall on a hard floor like that of the store.

Why the hell did she wear these stupid things? When she just ended up on her ass half the time. Jaya grabbed her bag and pushed her dark hair out her face irritatedly so she could see what she was doing. It was only then she saw the feet in front of her. Looking up she blinked a few times at the girl blond, before smiling and accepting the hand. " Erm... thanks." She smiled, turning slightly red at the embarrassment. Honestly, what teenage girl couldn't walk in high heals? Jaya brought her feet under her and stood up, scooping her bag up with her. " Yea I'm ok, just 16 years old and still perfecting the art of walking." She smiled kindly up at the girl.

Kelsey laughed and replied, "Yeah, my sister's like that. We're both seventeen and she still can't walk in a straight line. At least I'm a tad more coordinated than she is." "Besides, I'm more interested in perfecting the art of shopping- it's lots of fun, especially when you've got, say, moola from the atm?" She grinned, looking rather proud of herself for having enough money to merit owning a credit card, albeit a shared credit card.

Jaya smiled at the blond girl, brushing down her light coloured jeans, getting all the god-knows-what from the floor off her jeans. Jaya didn't even want to think about what was on that floor, or where people's feet had been, Yuck! At the words about shopping Jaya rolled her eyes, " Money differently helps for shopping, especially when it's not left in your bedroom."Honestly, how had she managed to forget it?! It had been right there! Jaya cursed herself in her head yet again for her forgetfulness.

Kelsey smiled and responded, "Hey, if you need money, I'll lend you a couple bucks. Besides, I can always pester the manager and make him give me my paycheck early, so it's not a problem." The blond teenager shifted her weight to her right leg and crossed her arms, looking thoughtful. "Hmm.. now that I think of it, I'm almost out of my favorite eyeshadow.."

Jaya couldn't believe the girl was offering her money, they'd just met! She was either abnormally nice or awful with money. That was crazy, nice, but crazy. " I couldn't take your money, it's fine... really."Jaya was still surprised someone she didn't even know the name of was offering her to lend her money.
It only struck her then that she still hadn't introduced herself. " I'm Jaya by the way." She smiled at the girl, before laughing at the comment about eye shadow. " Well Eye Shadow is a basic human need." She spoke with no hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Kelsey grinned and answered, "I knew you looked familiar- you and my sister were in the same math class last year. Oh yeah, and my name's Kelsey. If you don't know me by name, you probably know my sister, Sam, or my best friend, Miranda. Totally opposite ends of the popularity spectrum, but hey, I'm not complaining." She stopped talking for a brief moment, then insisted, "No, it's fine, honest. You can always pay me back later." (( hehe, see, this is what happens when you have a fledgling for a brother- no matter what, you're getting your money back. eventually. ))

After a moment trying to visualize her maths class, Jaya nodded. " Yea, That's where I recognize you, or your twin from. I'm sure it's from class. But you can't blame me for not remembering, it's perfectly reasonable to try and block memories of maths from my memory." Jaya smiled lightly, but she really did hate maths, it was really horrible and she wasn't fond at all of it. But then again, who was? Well apparently she wasn't getting much choice on the whole borrowing money front, so Jaya eventually relented. " Well, Ok, I mean if I don't see you again before school goes back I can always give it to Sam."The next school year was fast approaching, to quickly for her liking.

Kelsey smirked ever so slightly to herself. So it worked... they really have forgotten that Nick ever existed. Well, that's convienent. No more drags on my popularity..."Yeah, that'll work, no problem. As long as you remember to tell Sam that it's my money and not some random gift. Because she'll do that, I've seen it before."

Jaya couldn't Imagine her brother stealing from her. She and Jonah fought, they annoyed each other, but they didn't steal. Well, she may nick a few dollars out his jeans but nothing more than that. He'd certainly never steal from her, ever. " I'll be sure to mention that." So much for twins sharing everything. Jaya smiled at the girl, Kelsey, she remembered her name as, she seemed a decent sort of person. She wondered briefly why she hadn't talked to her before. she seemed nice enough.

"So, how much do you need?" Kelsey asked, turning away from Jaya to examine the eyeshadow display. "Five cents more? You gotta be kidding me," she muttered under her breath. "Stupid recession. You'd think that after five years it'd be over, but noooo...."
