He shrugged, amused, but with a sarcastic edge to his smirk. " Oh, let me think... Professors Indigo and North both assign shitloads of work, usually essays that are boring as hell, though." Blackjack stretched, yawning slightly before continuing. " By the way, about half of us are psycho, so don't expect anyone normal anywhere on these grounds," he added, grinning wickedly. With dark shadows under his eyes and the pale skin of someone who hasn't spent much time out in the sun for a few months, he easily pulled off the criminally-insane appearance (which was perhaps more accurate than he pretended). His sleeves, slightly pushed up after the conversation, revealed the tips of his fingers, the sliver of visible skin criss-crossed with slender scars. He noticed this fact after a moment, and hurriedly pulled the sleeves in on themselves, forming a closed end on both. (( tiredd.... ))

Cyra laughed, a soft growl of thunder accenting her voice. "Essays. Ha - those things have always brought me endless days of fun."she said quietly, dryly. "Should've known I couldn't escape them." a small smile twitching at her mouth. She regarded him with an interested look, for some reason - he reminded her of Hugh Dennis, a comedian she rather liked. Could be because the humour Hugh used usually referred to Psychopath's or the Criminally Insane. Sometimes.
And Blackjack really did have an insane look about him, "Suddenly I see you giggling insanely, with wide, crazy eyes - half naked and running around with a pair of scissors. Thank you so much." She said in a sarcastic tone, but shaking slightly with silent laughter, that image would keep her entertained for quite a while. Obviously, she didn't miss the scarred skin that Blackjack unwittingly showed for a brief moment - but said nothing. He wasn't the first person she had known who cut themselves. A couple of her friends in both Rochester and Exeter had done so. Most of the time, those people didn't like talking about it. So she stayed silent on the matter turning her mind back to the image she'd got of Blackjack and scissors. Very quickly the smile came back.

" That's funny, most people say that they usually imagine me with knives in hand, not scissors," he remarked, smirking at the thought, mostly because folks back then, they knew who and what he was. Nowadays? He'd be lucky if he never got tied up in the wrong crowd again, and he was pretty sure that vampyres weren't immune to bullets traveling through their bodies at high speeds. When her expression darkened for a moment, it caught his attention, but he disregarded the return of the smile as a distraction. What is it with girls and mood swings? he mused, part thoughtful, and part irritable. Then realization struck him. Oh, damn it all, now I'm going to be stalked by rumors for a month. That's just awesome. Not.(( let's wrap up this thread, then we can cont. it on BV :3 ))

Cyra snorted, "that's boring. Scissors are way more fun." she said wryly, walking over to the window. She scrunched up her eyes against the sunlight, wow - it hurt to look at it already, and she'd barely even got here. She noticed some of the clouds were starting to break up a little, and the rain had lightened. There was another roll of thunder, but it was much fainter. Maybe it was moving away.
She turned away, looking back to Blackjack and Karima. She blinked rapidly and laughed quietly. "Ow - Won't do that again in a hurry." she muttered, smiling slightly. "Looks like the storm is going. Can't say for sure, though." She said to Blackjack, as if it would interest him. She doubted it - but she had heard him complaining about the storm when he'd first walked in. No doubt it had woken him. There was also that nagging suspicion that Blackjack was Brontophobic, which was also most likely a factor to the storm keeping him up. He'd probably go back to sleep when he was sure it was gone, but Cyra doubted she could say the same - that weird dream with the funny bird-things would just wake her right up again.

He snorted with laughter when she gazed out the window at the slowly-reappearing sunlight, and shrugged in response to her remark. " Yeah, see, most fledglings figure out that sun equals no good before they even get here," he said, grinning wickedly. " And good, maybe I'll get some sleep when the thunder stops. That's the only good thing about storms, they wipe themselves out pretty quickly most of the time." Blackjack shivered, a semi-automatic reaction to an unseen lightning bolt and the soft blast of thunder that followed it. " You should sit with me at lunch, midnight meal, or whatever else you want to call it. I could introduce you to a bunch of fledglings, if you aren't too afraid of making friends and losing them two weeks later."

Cyra pouted, "Well when I got marked it was in the afternoon, and the sun was going." she said reproachfully, but was a humorous sparkle dancing in her eyes, and at the remark about storms, she nodded, "Yeah. Most of the time." she said quietly, she'd been through some that were longer - a lot longer.
She tilted her head a little at his offer, thinking - Losing them two weeks later? Is he referring to them dying? - she thought herself, then inwardly nodded. He probably was. Losing friends so quickly was an idea that she reckoned in the situation, well - she'd find it upsetting. Yet it seemed that was an idea she'd have to get used to, so she'd deal with it. "Sure, why not?" She said after a few moments, a slight smile on her face, "And as for losing friends that fast? I'm hardly afraid of it. Life's too short, anyway - as the saying goes." she said wryly, if everybody was afraid of doing so for that reason, they'd all be hermits - living in caves. She then looked thoughtful again, "assuming it's still valid, here."

Blackjack shrugged. " The funny thing is, either you don't survive your fledgling years and die young, or you survive them and live for a few centuries. So I suppose it really depends on what Nyx's plans are for a person. Judging by the fact I'm not dead yet, I'd guess she has a more interesting destiny for me than death." He chuckled softly, briefly wondering how he managed to be so casual about an experience he'd come too close to for comfort. Must have something to do with the 'I might die next week' mentality, he mused thoughtfully, an expression of morbid entertainment spreading across his features. " At any rate, I'm going to go and try to get a powernap, at the least. An hour's sleep is better than nothing, that's for sure." (( fledgling bio forms are up on Blood Vow, if you'd like to start working on yours ))

Cyra nodded, "you do that. I may try, myself, but..." she tailed off, thinking. For the last few days, she hadn't got much sleep. - stupid stupid dreams, keeping me up... - she thought, almost frustrated. Lack of sleep could make a person grumpy. Luckily she was able to keep cheerful, most of the time. She shook pf the thought with a physical motion of her head and looked up again. "Well - dreams don't seem to make for a restful night, here." she said bitterly, tapping her head as she did so.
She walked over and picked up the sketchbook, closing it with a soft snapping noise, "Ah - who knows, I might get lucky." she said quietly, and started heading for the corridor, "sleep tight." she said, a dry smile on her face as she looked at the fledglings she'd aimed the words at - Karima and Blackjack.
