This is a few weeks before she is Marked, she's a Human Sometimes, a girl just needed her Starbucks fix, that simple. And even though Jaya didn't actually drink coffee, she needed her Starbucks hot chocolate. She'd never felt the real need to drink coffee to get the full experience of the wonderful place, and their Hazelnut Hot Chocolate with extra cream was very good. So now was one of those times, and Jaya was in "her" spot, the table in the corner next to the window, her hot chocolate sat in front of her and her book in hand. This was one of Jaya's favorite spot, it was her area, she was completely at ease in these surroundings. The buzz of her phone ruined it though. With a sigh Jaya dug in her purse, pulling out her phone and flipped it open. One message from Jonah read? Sighing Jaya opened the message and scanned it, her brow furrowing. "Were r u? U neva said u'd be out. J"Honestly, she loved her brother, but he was so over protective, he worried all the time. And of course she knew why, but still. SHe was 16, couldn't she go to Starbucks without informing him? Quickly she typed out a reply. " I'm in Starbucks, wanted time out the house. I'll be bak by dinner, promise. J x"Jaya sighed heavily, hopefully that would satisfy his paranoia.

Despite the lies that your making...
Xeion, more formerly known as Micheal (though he never introduced himself that way) had had the same notion as Jaya. It was a nice day, though he couldn't go a day without a mocha. It was his secret pleasure, his sweetest sin. He stepped inside Starbucks, lowering the hand he'd been using to sheild his eyes from the glare against the windows, and walked up to the barista. He offered her a shy smile and she smiled brightly back. "Same as always?" She asked politely, and he nodded, his smile widening a little. She turned away from him for a moment, and he glanced around, spying a girl at one of the tables. He smiled, he would sit there and with luck, make a new friend. [/blockquote] Your love is mine for the taking... After he'd paid for his mocha and taken it from the barista he turned to look at the girl. He shifted from one foot to the other for a moment, wondering whether or not it was a good idea to go over there. He was always like that, mood swings. Pushing a peice of his long blonde hair out of his face he made up his mind. With a determined nod he walked over to her, and smiled, hoping to ger her attention. My love is just waiting... "Um..." His voice cracked and he coughed, raising one hand to cover his neck, rubbing it soothingly. It hurt today. He could feel the three small inpressions on his skin there, the jagged white lines of his scars. He gave the girl a questioning smile and nodded to the open chair. "Can I sit there?" He asked shyly, his voice soft, smooth like velvet, though barely there. He continued to massage his vocal cords, just out of habit, and partly because he didn't want her to see the scars. To turn your tears to roses... [/color]

It had been a long time since Blackjack really went anywhere alone. Sure, he did it all the time back in New York, but nowadays, he didn't really leave the House of Night much, let alone by himself. But alone he was, as Kaliea and the others were spread out around town, sightseeing, or in Kaliea and Lacey's case, shopping until they dropped (it helped to have a rich step-father and ex-boyfriend, respectively). Not that Blackjack minded- his and Kaliea's relationship was a bit strained at the moment anyway, and they both needed some additional time apart. Not that four months wasn't a long time. Blackjack felt oddly uneasy as he walked in to the local Starbucks, which was quieter than usual. He was dressed in his usual, long black jacket over t-shirt and gray jeans. He had concealer smoothed over his Mark, which he'd gotten so accustomed to wearing that it felt no different than his own skin. Not really the type that liked tea or coffee, he ordered a small soda. After he paid (money that he'd earned not quite fair-and-square), Blackjack turned to sit at his usual table, only to find it occupied by a girl, sitting, and some guy, standing next to the table. Aww, you gotta be kidding me. The one day I actually come in alone, and my table's taken. That sucks.

After setting her phone back on the table, Jaya turned back to her book. In the back of her mind, Jaya prayed Jonah wasn't going to make a big deal about this. So she'd gone out without him knowing, but she shouldn't need to ask for permission. He was her brother, not her father. Just because he was her guardian did not mean he could be he so... over protective about it. She was 16, she didn't need his permission to go get a drink. It was sad in a way, they'd had been so close before everything happened, but now that he was acting more like an over protective father they merely fought 99% of the time. It was sad, but hopefully when they got older, or she did, they'd go back to the way they were.
At the sound of the voice Jaya raised her head, eyes clamping on the younger boy in front of her. He looked nervious, poor kid, she wasn't going to eat him. Jaya's face broke into a kind smile. "Feel free, it's busy enough in here..."
Her eyes flicked to behind the younger boy, looking to the boy, maybe around her age or older, behind him. He was looked at the table. What's his problem? She wondered, it was her table. This was where she sat every time. She could invite people to the table, but it was still hers!
Jaya eyes went back to the boy, relaxing her face. "I'm Jaya..."

I can't escape this hell... Xeion blinked, smiling at the girl and quickly taking the seat. He qucikly positioned himself comfortable, sitting corss legged and smiling at the girl, trying to look friendly. Not many people were nice to him in this town. Not because he wasn't friendly to them, more like they all had serious cases of homophobia and thought he was odd for not being able to talk well. He absolutely hated it when people judged someone for something that he couldn't control. So many times I've tired... Jaya... He rolled them name over in his mind, liking the way it sounded. Breaifly pausing to take a sip of his mocha he thought about hwo to introduce himself. Should he tell her his real, boring as hell name? Or should he intorduce himself as Xeion, the guy with not so boring as hell name? Either one would work for him really, but he did hate his real name. Pushing another stray lock of blonde hair out of his face, he decided. But I'm still caged inside... "I'm-" He coughed a little, covering his neck with his hand again, since rubbing it always seemed to help. "I'm Xeion." He told her, offering yet anotehr smile. He couldn't help it, he was that kind of person, the kind of person that smiled no matter where he was, hell, he'd smile at a funeral! That was just the way he was. Somebody get me through this night mare... Xeion turned his attention briefly to the other boy, looking him over. His lips twitched at the edges, just slightly. He was kind of cute, that other boy, maybe he'd... sit with them? Xeion doubted it, not if he was around town, he'd probably mumble something rude and walk off. The thougt turned his mind to Jaya, was she from around town? If so, why didn't she frown at the sight of him like everyone else? Maybe she was defective. I can't control myself! Being the master of quick decisions and convienient locations, Blackjack didn't stick around long, casually striding over to a table next to his usual. He made it look completely normal, like this was his usual table. He took a long sip from his soda and set it down before making himself comfortable, leaning back in the chair and pulling a copy of the day's newspaper out of his pocket. Not that he intended on reading it, he'd nicked it from Mo's bag just so he could say he actually read the paper. A complete and utter lie, intended to impress Kaliea, little-miss-genius. More likely than not she'd call him out on lying, but he didn't care much. Sitting where he was, with his back to the other table, Blackjack could hear every word they said in the quiet shop, even the guy, whose voice was almost a whisper. Just because it's quiet doesn't mean you have to whisper.... unless they're conducting some sort of underworld deal... now, that I could take advantage of... he mused silently.

Jaya watched the boy in interest, wondering fleetingly if she was that intimidating, he seemed a little nervious. Although the younger boy had a kind smile, warm. She watched as he sat across from her, setting her book down and picking up her mug, warming her hands around it. It may be summer but the air conditioning in here was cold and Jaya had always been one to feel the cold. Thus she had hot chocolate, even in August. A he introduced himself Jaya nodded " Xeion..." She smiled, letting the name roll over her tongue. It was interesting, unique. "Unusual, fitting though..." Jaya had just raised her mug to her lips to take her sip as her mobile took on a life of it's own, vibrating violently off the table. No prizes for guessing who it was...Quickly she grabbed it to stop the noise and clicked the message, unsurprisingly from Jonah, open. " Jaya get ur ass home now. I mean it!"Quickly Jaya typed out her own short message consisting of "No" before sending it. She glanced up at Xeion and smiled apologetically. "Sorry about that. I'm being checked up on."She raised her eyebrow, surely Xeion knew how it was. Mostly it was people's parents though, not their brother. She noticed the boy who had been looking at them, sit down at the table next to them. Jaya couldn't help but wonder about him. She knew most of the people around here (if only by face and not name), especially fairly good looking guys around her age, but he was completely unfamiliar...

I seek you out... Xeion looked over at the other boy, a shiver running up his spine. He didn't like the feeling that the other gave him, it was one of... instinctual fear, like the fear the doe has of the wolf. It had to be his imagination, and thus he dismissed the preditory feeling coming from the other, and pushed the un reasonable prey like fear down. Flaw you alive... When Jaya's phone started to vibrate, he subconiously thought about his own phone, which he'd left on his bed side table this morning. A familar ache rose in his heart at her words, for he did not know what it was like to have people worry about you, his own parents wished he'd disapear truthfully. Distracted, he glanced out the window, shrugging and clasping his mocha in suddenly shakey fingers. He frowned, and looked down at the frothly liquid, watching the surface quiver slightly. What had come over him this time? Was it the pain of not knowing what it was to be worried after? Or was it the odd feeling he was getting from the other boy. One more wait and you won't survive... Sipping his mocha, he sent a small smile back at the girl, "I guess so." He said, shrugging again. "My parents don't really care what I do." His voice was getting stronger, as it always did after he talked for a while, going from a whisper to just barely above, and one could tell how his voice actually sounded. He tended to have a very feminine tone that carried in his voice, though it didn't bother him, nor did it bother most because trully it fit his form. But alas, his voice was still very hushed. And I'm not scared.. He glanced at the other boy again, sipping his mocha and inspecting the other with a mixure of expressions passing over his visage. First was interest, then confusion, judgement, curiousity and finally it rested on a confused state of mild frustration and anger. Why did this person give him such an insucure feeling? What was it about him that just... sent shivers up his spine? Of your stolen power... Glancing back at Jaya his expression changed to that of one that was very intent apon figuring something out. He couldn't help that he was curious, it was in his blood to learn about things. He then leaned over the table, lowering hsi already quiet voice purposefully. "That guy over there is giving me the creeps... He nodded in the other's direction, though it was only a controled twitch of his head. "And I don't know why..." He bit the inside of his cheek, his brow creasing in consentration. See right through you any hour...

Blackjack had to force himself not to grin as he listened to the guy speak. Me, giving you the creeps? Naaah, not me, of all people. I'm not dangerous at alllll. That'd be Karima you want, if you want to get freaked out by a fledgling. Hah. He chuckled softly, knowing that the action would likely just make people think he was reading the comments or an amusing article- not that the newspaper was particularly amusing. It was mostly full of politics, celebrities, and back-to-school ads. How exciting. Being only five feet and three inches tall, Blackjack was used to people simply overlooking him or underestimating his abilities. Well, he didn't get away with it as well among vampyres, they had some freaking scary abilities. It was unusual for humans, of all things, to recognize his ability, even if it was just their subconscious. I've forgotten how fun it is to mess with people's heads, he thought, amused.

When Xeion spoke about parents it made Jaya bristle, she didn't know why. Of course he didn't know, how could he, but she still felt a stab of sadness thinking about the thing that would be permantly missing in her life. But she put up her mast, as usual, and just took a sip of hot chocolate before speaking. "Not my parents, brother." She left it at that, no need for more explanation. If he asked, maybe she'd tell him the truth, but more likely she'd just keep it vaugue. Telling people why exactly she lived with her brother just caused them to pity her and ask her " was she ok," or "how was she holding up". It just annoyed her, they didn't care, they never cared, they just said it because they thought if was something they felt they should do. No feeling, and pointless. Jaya followed Xeion's head flick at the other boy and she looked over, frowning. She wondered what he meant by his words. Creeps how? After regarding the boy for a moment she flicked her eyes back to Xeion in front of her. Sure there was something... different, about the boy, Jaya couldn't exactly put a finger on it, but it didn't make her uneasy. " I don't get what you mean." She settled on finally, unsure or what Xeion really meant.

"I just have this weird feeling about him" Xeion replied softly, then shook his head, trying to dismiss the uneasy feeling he had. He looked back to Jaya, sipping his mocha slowly. "You have a brother? That's nice. I'm an only child." He smiled at her, feeling his voice start to get stronger once again. He hadn't talked this much since school had ended, and even then he only talked to ask questions. He glanced back at the other boy, eyeing him wearily and sipping his mocha. he couldn't help but wonder... why didn't Jaya feel it too? maybe he was just a freak.

Blackjack's curiousity was immediately piqued when he heard the girl say something about having no parents. That girl should consider herself lucky she still has a brother, he mused, his usually-cheerful mood darkening a bit. The dark-haired teen missed the freedoms of being human, he had to admit, but in all truth, it was better to be a fledgling. He was going to die anyway, but at least this way, his death could be on his own time and not whenever his enemies felt like having a shooting practice. And, besides, he got free meals and a room to himself- which was way better than living off what he could scavenge from tourists and the like. No wonder that every vampyre I meet thinks I'm way too skinny for my own good, he mused, smirking slightly. Go on, I dare you to actually talk to me instead of muttering about me, he thought, forcing himself not to grin like a madman. Not that he wasn't one, anyway. C'mon, be a man and tell me that I'm giving you the creeps!
