Very often, Alaine is mistaken to be someone she isn't. With her nose ring, heavy eye makeup, and vivid red tattoos, she is often mistaken to be a) a student, b) a goth, or c) a total psycho. And, as one would find after talking to her, none of those three describe her very well.

Alaine was always pale, even as a human, and after being marked, she simply got paler. It didn't take long for her comrades, mentor, and professors to realize that she was quite unusual, in more than one way. She has unnervingly pale blue eyes, which have an intimidating effect on humans and new fledglings.

She has long black hair which she usually keeps trimmed to just past her shoulders. However, when Alaine is too busy or too stressed to bother with her hair, it likes to grow out fast. Really fast.

As mentioned above, Alaine has a liking for heavy eye makeup, which usually consists of eyeliner, mascara, and lots of light blue eyeshadow. Her main objective with the blue is to draw attention to her eyes, but also to contrast with the crimson-colored marks on her face. Alaine has a nose ring, which she got when she was a fifth former, and she still wears it consistently. Even so, she has been known to hide or remove it for certain things, such as rituals or other important events, especially those involving other houses of night.

Most often, Alaine can be found wearing fairly simple clothing. She doesn't -and never has- liked elegant clothes or dresses, and will usually persist in wearing jeans and a sweater or t-shirt.

Personality:

Alaine is generally fairly antisocial and aloof, and while she doesn't like to be around large groups, she is usually friendly and, for the most part, easy to get along with. She is very intelligent, but also secretive and focused. Once set on a goal, Alaine will go to any means to achieve it, even if it means sacrificing others. She's not afraid to use her power and abilities to get an advantage over others; rather, she tends to do it somewhat often.

Alaine, while she doesn't seem it, always wants to know what's going on. And, being who she is, she usually knows. On any given day, Alaine likely knows who broke up with who, who was caught making out somewhere obscure, and who snuck out of the school instead of doing their work. However, whether or not she shares this information with you is a whole different matter.

Alaine was a junior in high school when she was marked. In other words, she was sixteen. Alaine was, unlike many fledglings, glad to have been marked, as she craved much more freedom than her parents were giving her. She had a younger brother, whom she hasn't seen for quite a long time, and by this point, Alaine has mostly forgotten her human family.

Her first few months at the House of Night were fairly uneventful. Alaine excelled in some classes, and nearly failed out of others. She spent a lot of her time in the library or in her dorm, often reading or checking up on the latest gossip with her roommate. But things got interesting not long after that.

It began with the sudden death of her roommate, a girl named Kathi. Not only was Alaine devastated, her life had been spun up in a whirlwind of events. In a nutshell, Alaine somehow managed to juggle dealing with the loss of her closest friend (the rest were either acquaintances or enemies), studying for classes, and figuring out why she was sometimes hearing thoughts and ideas not her own in her mind. Over the following few months, Alaine learned about her newfound affinity, and ended up becoming the High Priestess in training, with a newly-met and very unfriendly cat whom she named Nightmare.

Luckily for her, Alaine excelled, and rose to her role as High Priestess when the time came for her to take over. Several of the professors (namely the ones who had failed her) were averse to the idea, but all but one eventually got used to it. Now, Alaine spends her time teaching, planning, and getting to know the fledgling vampyres she spends all of her time with.
